1. Information We Collect
1. Information We Collect
a. Apnea Quiz and Remedy Quiz Responses
The App includes two optional in-app quizzes: an Apnea Quiz, which screens for potential sleep apnea risk factors based on your responses, and a Remedy Quiz, which suggests potential remedies based on your reported snoring patterns and lifestyle. When you complete either quiz, your responses are submitted to our servers solely for the purpose of generating your result. This processing is temporary. Once your result has been produced, all data relating to your quiz responses is permanently and irrecoverably deleted from our servers. Your quiz responses and results are thereafter retained only locally on your device. We do not use quiz responses for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond generating the result you requested.
b. Sleep and Snore Recording Data
The App uses your device's microphone to record audio during your sleep sessions in order to detect and analyse snoring. All snore recordings, detected snore events, snore intensity measurements, frequency data, and related sleep analytics are stored exclusively on your device. This data is never transmitted to, uploaded to, or retained on our servers at any point. You retain full ownership and control of this data at all times. You may delete it at any time by clearing the App's local data or uninstalling the App.
c. Analytics Data
We collect anonymised and aggregated analytics data about how users interact with the App, such as feature usage patterns, session frequency, and app performance metrics. This anonymised data is transmitted to our servers for the sole purpose of generating analytics reports that help us understand and improve the App. Once an analytics report has been generated, the underlying data that was used to produce it is permanently deleted from our servers. At no point does this process involve the transmission of any individually identifiable snore recordings, sleep audio, or health-related information.
d. Device and Technical Information
We may automatically collect certain technical information to support the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the App. This includes your device model, operating system version (Android or iOS), language settings, App version number, crash reports and error logs, and network connectivity status (that is, whether your device is connected via Wi-Fi or mobile data). We may also collect your device's advertising identifier — the Android Advertising ID on Android devices, or Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS devices — as well as install attribution information where applicable. These are described in detail in Sections 3 and 5 of this Privacy Policy respectively.
e. Permissions and the Data They Access
The App requires a number of device permissions to function. Before requesting any sensitive permission — in particular microphone access — the App will display a clear in-app disclosure explaining what data will be collected and how it will be used, and will request your affirmative consent before proceeding. The following is a full and transparent account of every permission the App uses, why it is needed, and precisely how any data accessed through it is handled. Where permissions differ by platform, both Android and iOS implementations are described.
Microphone — User-Granted (Android: RECORD_AUDIO; iOS: NSMicrophoneUsageDescription). This permission allows the App to record audio from your device's microphone during sleep sessions. It is the core permission required to detect and analyse snoring sounds. Before requesting this permission, the App will show you an in-app disclosure screen stating that audio will be recorded during sleep to detect snoring, that all recordings are stored only on your device, and that no audio is ever uploaded to our servers. Your affirmative consent is required on both platforms before the permission request proceeds. All audio data recorded through this permission is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers under any circumstances.
Notifications — User-Granted (Android: POST_NOTIFICATIONS; iOS: UNUserNotificationCenter authorisation). This permission allows the App to send you alerts, sleep reminders, and session summaries. On Android, you will be asked to grant this permission explicitly on Android 13 and above. On iOS, the App will request notification authorisation through the standard system prompt. No personal data is collected by virtue of this permission. You may manage or disable notifications at any time through your device's notification settings.
Exact Alarms — Android Only (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM and USE_EXACT_ALARM) — User-Granted. These permissions allow the App on Android devices to schedule reminders and alerts at the precise times you configure, such as a bedtime reminder or a session start alert. Without exact alarm permissions, reminders may be delivered imprecisely or not at all. Only your alarm time preferences are stored, and they are stored locally on your device. You may revoke this permission at any time via your device settings, though doing so will affect the reliability of reminder functionality. This permission is not applicable on iOS, where scheduled notifications are handled through the standard notification framework.
Background Audio — System-Level (Android: FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MICROPHONE, Automatically Granted; iOS: UIBackgroundModes audio capability). These platform-specific mechanisms allow the App to maintain continuous audio recording while running in the background, which is necessary to keep your sleep recording session uninterrupted when your screen turns off. On Android, a visible notification is displayed while the foreground service is active, as required by the operating system. On Android 14 and later, the FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MICROPHONE sub-permission is additionally required to permit background audio recording. On iOS, the background audio capability is declared in the App's configuration and does not require a separate user approval step beyond microphone access. All audio data recorded during background sessions is handled identically to foreground recordings: stored locally on your device only and never transmitted to our servers.
Internet Access — System-Level, Automatically Granted on both platforms. This capability enables the App to communicate over the internet. It is used for the following specific purposes: temporarily transmitting quiz responses to our servers for result generation (after which the data is deleted from our servers, as described in Section 1a); transmitting anonymised session metrics to Google Gemini for AI diagnosis report generation when you request this feature (after which no data is retained on our servers, as described in Section 1f); transmitting anonymised analytics data for report generation (after which the data is deleted from our servers, as described in Section 1c); and delivering App updates. Your snore recordings, sleep audio, and local analytics data are never transmitted over the internet.
Network State (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) — Android Only, System-Level, Automatically Granted. This permission allows the App on Android to check whether your device is connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network before initiating any network communication. It is used solely to avoid unnecessary background data usage and to manage sync timing intelligently. No personal data is collected through this permission. This permission is not applicable on iOS.
Install Attribution — Platform-Specific. On Android, the App uses the Google Play Install Referrer API (BIND_GET_INSTALL_REFERRER_SERVICE) to determine which marketing channel or campaign led to your App installation. On iOS, install attribution is handled through Apple's SKAdNetwork framework. In both cases, this information is used solely for marketing attribution purposes to help us understand the effectiveness of our campaigns. Attribution data is associated with campaign sources only and is not linked to your personal identity, your snore data, or any health information.
License Check (CHECK_LICENSE) — Android Only, System-Level, Automatically Granted. This permission allows the App on Android to verify with Google Play that it was installed legitimately from the Google Play Store, protecting against the use of tampered, pirated, or unauthorised versions. No personal data is collected or stored as a result of this check. This permission is not applicable on iOS.
Advertising Identifier — Platform-Specific. On Android, the App accesses your Android Advertising ID (AD_ID), a resettable device identifier that is automatically accessible without an explicit prompt, though you may opt out through your device settings. On iOS 14 and later, the App requests access to Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework, which requires your explicit permission before the identifier can be accessed. In both cases, the advertising identifier is used to improve ad relevance and to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. It is not linked to your snore recordings, sleep data, or any health-related information collected by the App. You may opt out at any time as described in Section 5 of this Privacy Policy.
f. AI-Generated Diagnosis Reports (Google Gemini)
The App offers an optional feature that generates a personalised diagnosis report based on your snore session data. This report is produced using Google Gemini, a generative AI service operated by Google LLC. When you request a diagnosis report, a limited, anonymised summary of your snore session metrics (such as snore frequency, intensity levels, and session duration) is temporarily transmitted to the Google Gemini API solely for the purpose of generating your report. No audio recordings, raw sleep audio files, or directly identifiable personal information are included in this transmission.
This data transmission is a one-time, request-triggered process. Once Gemini has generated your report and returned it to the App, the data submitted for that request is not retained by us on our servers. The generated report is delivered directly to your device and stored only locally. We do not store, log, or retain any copy of the data sent to Gemini or the report it produces on our servers.
Google Gemini processes this data in accordance with Google's terms of service and privacy policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy. By using the diagnosis report feature, you acknowledge that your session summary data will be processed by Google Gemini as described above. If you do not wish your data to be processed by Google Gemini, you may simply choose not to use the diagnosis report feature; all other App functionality remains available without it.
Important disclaimer: The diagnosis report generated by Google Gemini is produced by an artificial intelligence model and is provided for general informational and wellness purposes only. It is not a medical report, clinical assessment, or professional medical opinion. It does not constitute a diagnosis, and it should not be relied upon to make any medical or health-related decisions. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for advice on any sleep or health concerns.

Where we rely on your consent to process your data, you may withdraw that consent at any time. You also have the right to opt out of personalised advertising as described in Section 5 above.
Because your snore recordings, sleep analytics, and quiz results are stored exclusively on your device, you can delete this data at any time without contacting us. On Android, go to Settings, then Apps, select SnoreIQ, then tap Clear Data. On iOS, go to Settings, then General, then iPhone Storage, select SnoreIQ, and tap Delete App — or use any in-app data deletion option if available. Alternatively, uninstalling the App on either platform will remove all locally stored data. To exercise any of your other privacy rights or to make a request regarding data we may hold on our servers, please contact us using the details provided in Section 13 of this Privacy Policy.
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, the right to request deletion of your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell your personal information to any third party. To exercise your CCPA rights, please contact us at the address provided in Section 13.

7. Users in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following additional information applies to you under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable national data protection laws.
The legal basis on which we process your personal data depends on the type of data and the context in which it is processed. We process data necessary to provide the core features of the App on the basis of performing our agreement with you. We process anonymised analytics data and use the advertising identifier on the basis of our legitimate interests in improving the App and supporting its commercial operation, where those interests are not overridden by your rights. Where we rely on your consent — for example, for microphone access, for sending you notifications, or for accessing your IDFA on iOS — you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing prior to withdrawal.
Where data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, for example to servers operated in the United States, such transfers are conducted with appropriate safeguards in place, including standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or equivalent mechanisms recognised under applicable law.
If you are in the EEA or UK and wish to exercise your rights or lodge a complaint, you may also contact the data protection supervisory authority in your country of residence.

10. Data Security
10. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures designed to protect your information against unauthorised access, accidental loss, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Because your snore recordings and sleep data are stored exclusively on your device, their security is primarily dependent on your device's own security measures. iOS devices are encrypted by default. We recommend that all users enable a secure screen lock or passcode on their device to protect locally stored data. Android users should additionally ensure that full-device encryption is enabled through their device settings. For any data transmitted to our servers — including temporary quiz processing and anonymised analytics — we use industry-standard encryption protocols to protect data in transit.
No method of data transmission over the internet or electronic storage is entirely secure. While we take our data security obligations seriously and use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security against all possible threats.

11. Data Retention
We retain data only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, as described in this Privacy Policy. Snore recordings, sleep audio, and local analytics are retained on your device until you choose to delete them or until you uninstall the App. Quiz response data transmitted to our servers for result generation is deleted from our servers immediately after the result is produced. Data transmitted to Google Gemini for AI diagnosis report generation is not retained on our servers at any point; the report is returned directly to your device and stored only locally. Anonymised analytics data transmitted to our servers is deleted from our servers after the corresponding analytics report has been generated. Device and technical information, including crash logs and error reports, is retained on our servers for as long as is reasonably necessary for App maintenance, stability monitoring, and compliance with applicable legal obligations.
